Kat Byrd Romantic Recycled VTG Statement Forearm Cuff~ Shabby Neo-Victorian
Romantic Floral Bold Statement Arm Cuff Bracelet
Recycled Vintage Mixed Media Arm Piece~ "Winter Rose"
This piece is a coming together of many different vintage elements and recycled jewelry components, to create a Neo Victorian shabby style arm cuff, bracelet with an extravagant contemporary flair. The cuff is one piece of 3 that were created with the same batch of supplies, and with the same techniques, so they are matching. Although they technically are a "set", I am not selling them all together, because it is quite a LOT when you wear all three pieces, and I know that some people would only want to wear one or two of the pieces and not all three. So there is the neckpiece, the arm cuff, and the pierced earrings, all being sold separately but shown all together in picture 4.
I will also note that these pieces all include a small amount of real rabbit fur, for anyone who may have an aversion or allergy to genuine fur.
So again, this particular listing is for the ARM CUFF only. The other 2 matching pieces can be found in separate listings.
PROCESS: *applies to all three pieces, they were created all at the same time
I spent the first few hours designing, collecting together the components that I had in my head I wanted to use, and doing a "mock up" of how I wanted it to look. Once I had the general design and most of the parts I needed compiled, I Then created the shape I wanted, using 3 layers of recycled cotton fabric, and covered the top of that with vintage laces, old tattered lace trims, died lace scraps, and metallic gold mesh scraps, all of them sewn on with the sewing machine. Then I began adding these assembled elements:
Silk floral millinery from a 1940s hat
A 1930s beaded satin collar (one side of the collar was used on the neckpiece, the other side was used on the cuff)
Hand died netting from an old doll's dress
Vintage pendants
Vintage faux pearl beaded earrings
Vintage gold tone heart and faux pearl earrings
Winter white rabbit fur and silver cupped sequin trim reclaimed from a pair of 1940s shoes
Vintage 1950s clear rhinestone necklace
Reclaimed vintage ribbons
A mixture of Reclaimed vintage and new beads
Mixture of old and new rhinestone buttons
Mixture of old and new rhinestones
New satin rosettes
The items listed above were mostly sewn on, with exception of a few of them, which could not be secured that way. Those were glued on with industrial strength adhesive (not hot glue!). After all of the parts were secured, I applied ivory white felt backing to the entire cuff So none of the sewing that was done shows, it's all hidden underneath the felt backing, and there is nothing that will scratch or pick your skin or clothing. After that, the lace trim and loops were added and a new ribbon that ties it on, and adjusts to as loose or snug as you need it. I think next time I may use buttons rather than ties, because you will have to have someone else do the tying for you, I couldn't figure out a way to tie it myself. But it is nice to be able to draw it up, or loosen it up, because the size of a wrist varies substantially! Mine is tiny, I have to draw it up all the way to where the loops actually overlap. But most bracelets over 7" long just fall off of my wrist so, this way, any size wrist can fit into it.
The width is approx. 6" (from top to bottom)
The cuff measures about 8" across at the bottom (that includes the lace trim, so you can draw it up much smaller than that when you have it on. It measures about 9" across at the top
The components do show wear (by design), and due to their age, will have some degree of fragility, so wear and store with care. Try to avoid getting your cuff wet, or putting it under undo stress. That said, I DO go over each stone and bead, and secure them so my pieces are very well made, and precautions taken to guard against stones falling out, etc.. I used to make very elaborate showgirl style costumes, that were used to actually DO SHOWS in, so I'm used to making things very durable.
